Sponsored by United Way of Michigan, the Community Financial Centers focus on two key services to coach clients KEEP and GROW their hard earned dollars and become more financially stable.

KEEP IT! One-on-one financial coaching (credit, budgeting, saving, etc.) + Access to income supports such as child care subsidies, food stamps, as they transition
GROW IT! Access to lower-cost financial products and savings vehicles +Understanding & accessing employer-offered benefits + Accessing tax return opportunities (earned income tax credits, child care or heating credits)
Each individual develops his/her own financial plan that is tied to his/her individual life goals. Participants measure individual progress against their own stated goals. In addition financial centers track: How participants are improving their ratio of expenses to income and increases in participant's credit scores. CREDIT COUNSELING CENTERS
Unemployment can be difficult without the added burden of credit and financial problems. Credit Counseling Services provide confidential financial assessments, counseling, and assistance to individuals facing credit and financial difficulties. Assistance may cover budget and money management instruction, crisis problem solving (utility shut-off, eviction), and guidance through longer-term credit problems related to mortgages, taxes, wage garnishments, or secured or unsecured loans.

FINANCIAL HELP
Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)
Cash Assistance FIP (Family Independence Program) - paid with Bridge Card
Cash assistance is only for families with children under age 18. Includes pregnant moms or a grandmother raising grandchildren.
There is a 21 day assessment period for cash assistance. During this time BOTH parents must go to an orientation at Michigan Works and take part in the PATH program. If they do not follow through with PATH, they cannot receive benefits.
State Emergency Relief (SER)
SER is designed to maintain low-income househols that are normally able to make ends meet but occasionally need help when unexpected emergency situations arise. The program can be used for burials, energy assistance, weatherization, and home repairs.

Wayne Metro's Community Financial Center (CFC) provides free financial coaching to help families and individuals imrpove their financial situations. When you enroll in the program, you will be given the knowledge and guidance you need to increase your credit scores, net incomes, and net worth.

VETERANS - FINANCIAL COACHING
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
The Department of Labor initiated this program in May 2015. It provides free financial coaching to veterans. The finance coach will help set goals, eliminate debt, build a credit score, avoid finance charges, save for retirement, etc. The coaches can meet with you at their office, by telephone, or at any safe place with a private room.
