The Senior Benefits Checkup

MiCAFE (Michigan's Coordinated Access to Food for the Elderly)
The Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program offers counseling by state-trained, certified counselors, for seniors and disabled adults of any age. Ther role is to assist them, free of charge and in an unbiased setting , to understand and navitage their choices in Medicare and Medicaid.
Currently, during Open Enrollment – Oct. 15 through Dec. 7 – an expanded number of appointments are available in all counties in metro Detroit.
All a person has to do is call the toll-free number, 800-803-7174, to get an appointment at a site most convenient to them.

ABUSE IN A FACILITY
The Area Agencies on Aging are able to assist seniors with many services such as those listed below. Agencies are organized geographically. Trained specialists help connect seniors and caregivers to the resources and services they need. This is a great place to start when you need any senior services. If they do not provide the service themselves, they will connect you to the needed resources. Ages 60+.

The Title V Employment program (also known as Senior Community Service Employment Program) offers part-time employment training opportunities for low-income persons age 55 and older. There are a limited number of employment slots available. Placement typically is in public or non-profit agencies.

Senior AIDES is designed to provide employment and training opportunities to older adults while providing services in the community. Older adults are placed in paid, subsidized positions at non-profit and government organizations in Oakland County. TO be eligible, one must be 55 or older and have an income at or below 125% of poverty.
AARP Senior Community Service Employment Program
For more than 45 years, the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) has provided older Americans 55+ with opportunities to fill entry- and mid-level positions with employers in their local communities. AARP Foundation SCSEP has successfully moved thousands of older job seekers into jobs–providing them with opportunities to use their skills while also offering valuable work experience.
How it Works
AARP Foundation’s SCSEP provides both community service and work-based training.
Working an average of 20 hours a week, older job seekers are paid the highest of federal, state or local minimum wage and are compensated by SCSEP directly. The job seekers are placed in a wide variety of community service activities at non-profit and public facilities like day care centers, senior centers, schools and hospitals. This on-the-job training experience can then be used as a bridge to find employment opportunities outside of the program.
Who’s Eligible?
To participate, you must be: age 55 or older, unemployed, economically disadvantaged and
have an income not more than 125% of the established federal poverty guidelines.

This is a nationally recognized program for adults 55 and older who serve as volunteers in their communities. It is a program of Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan. It is part of America's largest volunteer network for seniors. RSVP helps adults become active volunteers with schools, hospitals, community centers, libraries, museums, health and welfare organizations and other community programs.
There is also a telephone reassurance program available through RSVP.

Foster Grandparents serve as role models and mentors to special need youth in various settings such as public schools, day care and Head Start centers, juvenile detention facilities, developmental centers and teen shelters. There is a non-taxable stipend of $2.65/hour for 20 hours of volunteer service per week and mileage reimbursement.
The above number and contract person are also the same stipend as Senior Companions which is a program for assistance with grocery shopping, preparing and sharing a meal, offering a lift to the doctor, talking about old times and new challenged, and easing loneliness. Senior Companions also help disabled younger adults.
